I dealt with the Lamb Brooks dispute resolution service, as a defendant in a boundary dispute, over a low/zero value area of land. I make no comment on their other services, as I have had no experience of them. During the approximately six years of the dispute, my family were on the receiving end of generally verbose, and often, in our view, needlessly aggressive and negative correspendence from this firm, and witnessed a number of mistakes. We were even sent an aggressive email during our holiday, despite our having provided our dates in a public forum at which their representative made notes and despite their client reportedly reminding them we were away. Professionals who we commissioned commented that even by solicitors’ standards their correspondence and face to face approach, was generally verbose and/or aggressive and/or negative. On more than one occasion after meeting the Lamb Brooks’ representative he subsequently denied what was discussed/agreed.From my experience I would not recommend this firm either for claimant or defendant. As a claimant, whilst a hard line approach might work some of the time, you risk coming up against a defendant who stands up for themselves, as we did in part due to the threatening approach we witnessed, such that you could face a hefty bill. I would also have reservations using them to defend me and was quite satisfied with a firm in Bristol who I found more pragmatic and demonstrated an understanding of the principles of negotiation, which was absent from Lamb Brooks, when I had course to use a solicitor during this matter.My general advice too, if you are either tempted to instigate a boundary dispute or on the receiving end of one, is to try to get round the table with the neighbour or, if that fails, try to find a mediator who comes with a personal recommendation. *response edit: aside from the advice I shared for those in a similar position to try to resolve such matters through other means, my review relates to my personal experiences of the conduct and behaviour of your firm’s staff. The observations I note, including the aggressive style of communication, have little to do with your clients’ position and nothing to do with the fact we self litigated at one stage or that we achieved a satisfactory outcome to the matter in so doing. My observations lead me to genuinely not recommend you for use in boundary disputes be it as claimant or defendant. I feel your staff’s controntational approach has served to harden attitudes and drive costs up, rather than deliver the claimed “pragmatic, cost-effective advice”.
