Bought my flat

Bought my flat through a Mortgage brocker and they chose Blackhurst to process my legal paper work. I dealt with a solicitor and her assistant. I live in Bradford, so obviously all contact was via telephone. The whole process left my dissappointed and I questioned the credibility of the firm. The Solictor went on holiday while in the process and I found the whole process frustrating because, the flat had complications regarding service charges and l required, legal advice but couldn’t get any. The assistant did not seem to know the answers. My flat is a leasehold and l had questions regarding the lease but was also not provided with this.Throughout the purchase of my house no advise was provided. I was a first time buyer as well and even struggled to get a hold of the assistant on phone. After a long drawn out process, they completed all the paper and sent my title deeds.I made payment through bank transfer. This was not the end as I overpaid by £20 but never got a refund despite requesting for it.After one year l received a letter from tax office saying there was £200 penalty fee fine, for the deed being filed late by the firm that represented me. I paid HMRC £200 to avoid any problems as they demanded the money.l rung Blackhurst in May this year and asked about the penalty they admitted, filing my deed late and promised to get my refund £200 sent to me .l haven’t received payment or heard from them. A reputable firm should be quick to refund money owed and ensure they are transparent, about any fines incurred while processing paper work . l have found this firm reluctant to refund my money which concerns me about their credibility as a law firm. They only managed to refund £20 that I over paid after one and a half years because , I contacted them to enquire about the £200 fine.l have been patient with them never complained but, this has gone on for too long l wouldnt recommend them especially for 1st time buyers
